About the Department

Our Mission

The Department of Architecture at the University of Hong Kong is committed to providing world-class architectural education and conducting groundbreaking research. We educate architects who understand their social responsibility and are capable of addressing the complex challenges of our built environment.

Our Vision

To be a leading centre for architectural excellence in Asia, fostering innovation in design, technology, and urban development. We aim to develop architects who are critical thinkers, creative practitioners, and responsible stewards of the built environment.

History

Established in 1931, the Department of Architecture at HKU is one of the oldest architectural schools in Asia. Over nearly a century, we have evolved from a traditional architecture programme to a dynamic, research-focused institution that embraces contemporary design challenges. Our alumni have made significant contributions to architectural practice, education, and policy-making across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

The department has consistently demonstrated excellence in teaching and research, with numerous faculty members receiving international recognition for their contributions to the field. We maintain strong collaborations with leading universities and architectural practices worldwide.

Our faculty comprises experienced architects, researchers, and educators who bring diverse perspectives and expertise to the classroom and studio. They are committed to mentoring the next generation of architects and advancing the discipline through cutting-edge research and practice.
